PII Type Distribution

Not all PII types carry the same risk or require the same remediation response. An email address in an issue title is a different risk from a phone number in a comment body. Understanding the distribution of PII types across the portfolio helps focus remediation and training efforts on the most prevalent data category.

What you can conclude

• A portfolio dominated by email address detections likely has a copy-paste habit from customer communications — a training and workflow redesign opportunity.
• A high proportion of numeric ID detections may indicate customer reference numbers being used as shortcuts — worth standardizing a non-PII identifier.
• An even distribution across types suggests multiple independent sources of PII entering Jira — a broader process review is needed.
