This visual maps every status transition that has occurred and shows how frequently each combination appears. You can immediately see which paths are dominant — the "happy path" your workflow was designed for — and which paths are rare, unexpected, or going in the wrong direction.

Backward transitions (e.g. Done → In Progress) show up clearly here as off-diagonal movements. A high volume on these cells is a direct indicator of rework and process compliance issues.

What you can conclude

  • A healthy matrix is dominated by forward diagonal movement — each status flowing naturally into the next.
  • High values on backward transitions point to rework — tickets being reopened or sent back after completion.
  • Unexpected "skip" transitions (e.g. To Do → Done directly) may indicate shortcuts that bypass required workflow steps.

How this chart works

Heatmap matrix where rows represent the "from" status and columns represent the "to" status. The color intensity of each cell reflects the volume of transitions between those two states — darker means more frequent.

Use the from-status and to-status filters to focus on specific transition pairs. This is particularly useful for auditing workflow compliance on specific paths.
